Your Hosts - Family Fankhauser

More than 30 years ago, when Hochfügen in the Zillertal was mainly inhabited by Alpine herdsmen, dairymen and farmers, Gottfried Schistl had a visionary idea.

He bought the mountain inn Lamark in a tourist no man’s land and started, together with two companions, to gently revive the high valley and make it attractive to holidaymakers.

In 1974, his daughter Gretl and her husband Lutz took over the property. Since then, the Frankhausers have managed the hotel with devotion creating a homely charm.

In 1999, the third generation arrived at the hotel. Son Alexander, an ambitious cook, who had perfected his trade with the best chefs in Great Britain, USA and Vienna, returned home. With him, Haute Cuisine entered the Hotel Lamark.

Treated as a culinary insider tip in the beginning, the creations of the ambitious chef have, in the meantime, been awarded the famous three toques by the culinary guide Gault Millau. In summer 2005, the Restaurant „Alexander“ celebrated another success: Alexander Fankhauser was awarded „Cook of the Year“.
